Working in healthcare for over 15 years I realised that our state of health and wellbeing is not simply based on genes or living conditions, but rather a complex outcome of all our relationships, with ourselves and our environment. Science is now confirming the strong connection between physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Emotional stress is a major cause of physical illness, from cancer to autoimmune conditions and many other chronic diseases. The brain and body systems that process emotions are intimately connected with the hormonal apparatus, the nervous system, and in particular the immune system.
However, the importance of the body-mind connection is still ignored in most conventional practices.

We are often told that to heal we need to feel. But how? We have learnt to be strong and to grin and bear things, to adapt to others and the environment and systems we live in. We were told to always be “nice”.
But what we have actually learnt is to disconnect from what we truly feel. We have learnt to either suppress and numb our emotions and feelings, or to constantly distract ourselves from them. We end up disconnected from our body, our intuitions and gut feelings and instead remain stuck in our minds, often overthinking, confused and overwhelmed. Because emotions don’t disappear into thin air when we don’t feel and process them, they amplify.
And if we do a very good job of ignoring and numbing, the body has to shout even louder with “dis-ease”.
So true “healing” is the re-integration and connection. It means to stop splitting ourselves into defensive parts, and to finally listen and trust the wisdom of the body to inform and lead the way back to our essential self.
