WHAT IS COMPASSIONATE INQUIRY?
Compassionate Inquiry is a trauma-informed psychotherapeutic method developed by Dr. Gabor Maté which reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world. Using Compassionate Inquiry, the therapist unveils the level of consciousness, mental climate, hidden assumptions, implicit memories and body states that form the real message that words both express and conceal. Through Compassionate Inquiry, the client can recognize the unconscious dynamics that run their lives and how to liberate themselves from them.

It is beautiful to see when clients finally allow themselves to be seen and heard for who they really are, without judgement and the need to do any fixing. It is in this safe and compassionate space that they allow themselves to experience their truth beyond any trauma or “disorder”. In contrast to a medicalised (mental) healthcare system that takes away their agency, they are empowered to call on their body’s wisdom and integration capacities. The body is in a constant movement towards healing; most often all we need to do is to become conscious about the parts of our experience that we resist, control, and sedate and prevent from being incorporated into the whole.
